Alpharetta Pediatrics

Alpharetta PediatricsWhen should my child see an orthodontist Alpharetta

(June 20, 2009, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Forsyth, Cumming, Ga.) The American Association of Orthodontists, and numerous other organizations pediatric recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation by age seven or earlier if there are visible indications of orthodontic problems. Orthodontist Alpharetta , Dr. Matt Walton says there are three basic reasons for the implementation of orthodontic treatment in children:

  1. To improve dental or irregularities affecting the teeth facial appearance
  2. To correct or improve the function of teeth
  3. To eliminate the problems of bites that could damage the
long-term health of teeth and gums

Some notable problems that may require orthodontic intervention at an early age include one or more of the following: problems with bite or speech, finger or dummy sucking habits which continue after six years, who takes the teeth front teeth spacing or crowding problems, baby teeth fall out too early or late, prolonged mouth breathing, jaw joints that click or uncomfortable, misplaced or supernumerary teeth, jaw small or large or further imbalance of the face. Because your child is not one of these does not mean he does not need orthodontics. There are some problems that may be present even if the front teeth may appear to be right.

Phase I, also called the interception process, will usually start when your child is still almost all of his teeth and maybe some permanent teeth in front of adults. This usually occurs around the age of seven years and is called early mixed dentition. The goal of treatment is to intercept create space in the jaws of adult teeth and help upper and lower jaws are connected correctly. Your child may require the need to design a customized treatment plan to guide the existing teeth in the correct positions for the adult teeth can come properly, or it may imply the removal of some teeth to allow space satisfying for the adult teeth. intercept treatment could also include a mixture of orthodontic treatment. The methods used and the schedule will be decided by your child's specific orthodontic problem and the unique personality.

With early treatment, the orthodontist can take advantage of the expected growth of a child, to make corrections that otherwise would not be possible in an older child. Wait until the baby teeth are removed and the permanent teeth came in expansion or until the face is almost complete may make correction of some problems more difficult. Out of some orthodontic problems untreated such as imbalances of the upper and lower jaws, could cause a problem too serious to handle alone suspenders.

However, every bite abnormalities need early treatment. Some problems can wait until almost all permanent teeth have grown in. Your orthodontist is best able to determine which problems require immediate treatment and which would be best addressed at a later date. This is why it is so important that your child have an orthodontic evaluation at an early age. This way, you can begin treatment when it is most advantageous for your child.

The key to remember is that the outcome of early treatment will be a better environment for dental growth and eruption of the remaining teeth and a beautiful face balanced. The benefit of treatment for your child interception can be enormous. Following phase one treatment or intercept your orthodontist will continue to monitor your child until the remaining permanent teeth erupt. Keep in mind that some children will again.
