Chennai February 16, 2010: Rotary Club of Madras Perungudi (RCMP) announced today a major expansion of its two years and a successful campaign, "Give way to ambulances and launched a slew of new initiatives to increase awareness Mass for the issue across the city. As a first critical step in the club will work closely with the traffic police of the city to avoid the ambulance delays, particularly during peak periods. RCMP also covers hospitals and associations of health partners in the city to launch new initiatives this year to address this issue more effectively.
The expansion program is being undertaken in the wake of some disturbing / data hit hard hit by the club, which reveals that in Chennai alone over 20,000 lives can be saved and injuries prevented if ambulances can not avoid the main lines and to reach hospitals faster. The "Make way for the ambulance program aims to significantly reduce the fatality and save at least 95% of these lives by 2015.
To mark the start of the campaign of a year, the club will hold a walkathon on 20 witnesses who had more than 300 participants from business sector, academic and college students in February, with leading City professionals pledge participation and action. The walkathon will be flagged off at 9:30 Labour Statue near Marina Beach and across the statue of Gandhi in the auditorium Queen Mary's College
a¼ Over 300 ambulances in the city are at least 3-4 daily trips and transport patients from 1200 to 1500.
a¼ 500 patients have access to the hospital within the golden hour. at least 50-60 of them arrive at the hospital beyond the golden hour (which results in severe irreversible damage).
a¼ More than 20,000 damages in one year in Chennai alone, due to delays ambulance, let alone the entire country.
a¼ The number of cases that are affected due to delay an ambulance in a year could easily cross a lakh.
Addressing the media on the occasion, the new Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Shakeel Akhter (IPS) said: "With increased traffic in the city, ambulances are facing a serious problem of being able to respond Emergency and achieve timely. It is a Herculean task today to control traffic and make way for the ambulance, even for the traffic police. However, the common message to the pilots when they hear an ambulance siren from a distance is to go immediately to their left and stop, allowing the ambulance to pass. It will only take 2-3 minutes long, but can save a life that is on the way to hospital. The police department of the city traffic will work closely with the RCMP to ensure that this issue is a higher priority and is being managed more aggressively. "
AR Selvanathan, Speaker, the RCMP said: "It is shocking but true that over 20,000 lives can be saved in Chennai, where ambulances could not get in the way city traffic heavy and fast shuttle. The last two years of the conduct of the campaign and our work and the initial ground surveys indicate that on average 50-60 people in Chennai are affected every day because of delays in ambulance. first success of the club gave us the confidence to expand the program initiatives scheduled throughout the year and through the city to raise publ.
