Becoming An Ambulance Officer

I do not know where to start to become an ambulance officer in Australia. I am an Australian resident living in the south west of Brisbane. Should I go to university, or is there another way? I am 28 years old.

I live in VIC and down here you must hold a bachelor's degree in emergency care before you can work as a paramedic. It is a course of 3-4 years depending on the UNI. In Vic paramedics can not work in the ambulances do not know if it's the same thing up there.
