These extra cells form a mass of tissue called a growth or tumor. The tumors can be benign, which means not cancerous, or malignant, meaning cancerous. Breast cancer occurs when a malignant tumor forms in the tissue of your chest. According to the site of origin of these cancer cells, breast cancer is classified into various types. The most common types of breast cancer from either breast milk ducts (ductal carcinoma) or lobules (lobular carcinoma). The starting point is determined by the microscopic appearance of cancer cells from a biopsy.

How breast cancer diagnosed?
Early diagnosis is the best cure for breast cancer. By learning the art of self-breast exam and undergoing regular mammograms (a kind of X-ray technique for breast cancer), you can detect a tumor in its early stages.

Routine Mammography
A mammogram is an x-ray of your chest. It is a safe procedure that is painless and can detect cancers at an early stage. After 30 years, a woman must undergo a routine mammogram once every five years. After 40 years, a woman should do this test done every year. If a woman has a family history of breast cancer, should begin to engage in mamographies routine, even before the age of 40 years.

Imaging tests
These are some of the imaging tests. Your doctor will recommend one or more, depending on his diagnosis.

Mammogarm: As described above, it is a technique of X-ray detection of breast cancer. Some advanced techniques of mammography as optical mammography is more accurate and easier to achieve.

Breast Ultrasound: This imaging is also called a sonogram. It will also indicate if the lump is a cyst filled with liquid (usually not cancerous) or is a solid tissue (tumor).

Biopsy: A biopsy is needed to determine if the tumor is benign or malignant. It will also help your doctor identify the type of cancer cells. In a biopsy, a tissue sample will be taken from the hump. The process of tissue collection is a simple process and your doctor will use a needle for the same. The tissue sample is then examined under a microscope to detect cancer cells.

If the biopsy confirms the presence of cancer.
