Cerec CEREC stands for "armchair economic restoration of ceramic aesthetics" and was developed by the dental technology company Sirona. This is a new development in dental technology that allows your dentist to produce precise ceramic restorations. Through the use of computer assisted technology, dental restoration procedures can be performed in a single office visit your dentist.
Technology
The penalty area is photographed and stored as a three dimensional digital model. This can be used to repair or replace:
· The caries
· Teeth
· Crowns
Once the photographic image, the software is used to approximate the shape of the restoration through the use of software biogenerics. The machine can accurately simulate a tooth that needs a filling or a tooth to be replaced by comparisons with surrounding teeth. It can also create a crown that is precisely over a tooth.
The new ceramic model is refined using a 3D CAD software. Then, a grinding unit creates the restoration of a composite block or a small ceramic block. The ceramic material expands and contracts in response to changes in temperature and is the same as the enamel does. The composite material is preferable to use for the restoration of small inlays.
A ceramic crown can be produced in about four minutes. The formatting is done by diamond-head which are controlled by the computer. Once the restoration is completed, it is bound in place using a resin.
Technical
Your dentist prepares the tooth for your specific procedure by coating it with a white powder. The 3D camera images of the tooth and downloads the information to the CEREC computer. Using the software, your dentist can design the shape and functioning of your restoration.
Restoring data is stored in a file that is transmitted directly to the grinding unit. Your restoration is then milled in a block or a block of composite ceramics. milling time can vary from four minutes to 20 minutes depending on the complexity of the restoration.
