Some hospitals provide guidance for nurses who are interested in pediatric care. This training includes classroom and clinical training. Whatever the method used in the hospital where you are employed, nobody expects you to come straight from school nurses willing to work in pediatrics, without further training.

Beyond the training you receive from the hospital, there are specialized courses available for nurses who are interested in becoming a pediatric nurse. The American Heart Association has a Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Emergency Nurses Association provides emergency child care specialist courses. There is also the Paediatric Society of Nurses, a professional association for those in the field.
