What is the cost of banking cord blood? Neither I nor my husband have any type of cancer in our families, but I plan to bank cord blood of our son, just in case. In your opinion is it useful? How much does it cost?
Here's a good report on the cord blood banks - it shows the pros and con.
I like the page I linked too - halfway down, he speaks of the genetic code of the blood. It is under cons "of the cord blood bank. My doctor said that part of me and I looked into it - that was my deciding factor not to.

Saving cord blood for your baby is so important. Stem cells are a perfect match for the baby and could also be a match for you, your husbands, brothers and sisters of the baby, etc. Stem cells have been used to treat cerebral palsy, cancer, sickle cell disease and 70 +.
Costs vary widely. I bought a gift from the bank cord blood for my stepdaughter and a lot of research. I used CordBancUSA (www.cordbancusa.com) because they have the best technology and very good price. (Some of the banking companies and more have been so much !!!!) I also loved the people I talked with at CordBancUSA - they were very attentive and knowledgeable.
Well it depends on where you live and what the banks are around you. Here (in Ontario), it had cost about $ 300 for the kit collection and about $ 120 per year for storage. Because of our universal health care, it costs nothing more to have it collected (which is indoors). Check with your doctor about these fees if you're in the U.S. though.
In my opinion, it's worth it. We save up to ensure we are able to do so. (And we will prepay for 5 years of storage). Whether it's worth it for you or not is a personal choice though. If you can afford it without real difficulty, so I see no reason not to do it just in case. However, if you guys are stretched financially, it is something to discuss and examine and see if the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.
Good luck
Really expensive ... It is $ 150 per month to keep in the bank, beginning $ 300 installation fee, as 600-700 for the kit and do the procedure ...
I would have done if it were not for the cool months of 150 banks ... This is outrageous.
Too expensive!
I think it's like $ 200 a month to store the blood and, like $ 600 to extract the blood ..
More than $ 300 to register?
I think I might just give mine and perhaps help another child ... ive heard that it was very expensive, ask your doctor
yeh its a lot of money, because frigging sucks, I would have liked to. _.
