The term "first aid" is now an accepted part of everyday language, and there is no doubt that it encompasses the help and assistance to sick and injured, but where does the term "first aid "originate and who have the original" first aiders ".

Prehistoric Man, by necessity, developed methods for treating diseases and injuries that befell him. He probably did not take long to realize in most cases than plugging an open wound would eventually stop bleeding, or attaching a branch to a broken leg would stop around the accident and help healing.

The first recorded history dates to 1099 first aid, when a religious order of knights trained to administer medical treatment has been formed. The Order of St John in which the modern St John Ambulance traces its roots organization that specializes in the treatment of injuries sustained in battle during the Crusades and the first recorded example of people trained to administer first aid.

In 1792, the French Army Surgeon General, formed the first military head of the medical profession. People have been trained and equipped to work away from the field hospital. Their task was to administer first aid on the battlefield and where appropriate removing the victim to the hospital campaign through them or on carts.

During the 1860s the first Geneva Convention and the International Red Cross was created to protect and treat the sick and wounded soldiers on the battlefield. Both the fruit of work begun by Henry Dunant, a Swiss, who had seen the soldiers of both sides, being left to die with horrific injuries during the battle of Solferino in 1859. A little later, an army surgeon first had the idea of training civilians in the so-called "pre-medical treatment.

The late 1800s saw dramatic changes with the training of what we now know that the modern British Red Cross (1870) and St John Ambulance (1877). In 1878, the term "first aid" appeared in Britain and is regarded as coming from "primary treatment" and "National Aid.

Surgeon Major Peter Shepherd and Dr. Coleman ran the first public course in first aid to the Presbyterian Church, Woolwich, London in January 1878. Dr. James Cantil Later published lecture notes of the shepherds during that first aid to injured. It was not long before St. John Ambulance was running other public courses in the cities of Great Britain.

Britains first official ambulance crews were trained for use in mines and railways. The agents were trained using the first and most basic feature of handcarts, while a great improvement on the facilities already available, they are a little more than a transportation service. As 1897 saw the formation of the first London ambulance service full time which was set up by the Metropolitan Asylums Board.

During the First and Second World War, the British Red Cross and St John Ambulance have joined forces to form the Joint War Organisation and played a major role in supporting medical services, both on the field of battle abroad and in Britain.

The National Health Service Act 1946 - which came into force in 1948, established a legal requirement for ambulances to be made available by the legend that was needed, which is the NHS ambulance service, such we know it today.

of modern training aids first stems from early work of the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance, and in principle has not changed since the early 1900s, although, looking back through manuals training early reveals some practices, which are now quite amusing.

100 years after the first course of public support at first, where training classes are made up of two boys and girls, you run into problems if you tried to implement single-sex classes, but in 1908 it been accepted as the norm.
