Can you put defib pads on a port-o-cath or a port of the centerline, under someones right clavicle? if not how far should it be and in what direction? to the heart? I know that about 2-inch scar from a pacemaker.
The idea is that when you defib, electricity "can" follow the catheter and cause internal burns, damage, etc. remember that electricity follows the path of least resistance.
If you move the blocks, even a little for they are not directly over, or touch a catheter, it would be better. Usually, the anterior pad is placed directly on the heart and, ideally, the rear pad is placed directly behind the heart. But you do what you have to do at the time.
Now remember something about doing CPR or ACLS. You have a dead / dying patient. If you do not do something that the patient is dead. If you make a mistake or not do something well and what is the worst thing that will happen?
You must do everything possible to save the life of this person. something is not right for this patient? Sure. What if you defib and part of the electricity does not follow the catheter and cause an internal combustion or other, but life Guy. At least he is alive to complain.
