Dog Blood Donation

Has anyone ever asked or offered to your dog (s) donated blood? Just curious - What has been your experience?

I work at a vet and my Great Dane has saved five lives by donating blood. It is the patient most amazing ... it's like she knows she is saving a life. They did not even take him down or calm or something, she sits there patiently while the procedure is done! She is usually tired this evening but the next day, she is quite good. Do not worry, it does not give on a weekly basis! lol I worked there three years and has won five times during this period! She is a trooper!

With my daughter, she always gets asked to do so because it is a large dog he has no stage at all to donate blood. If you have a large dog, it would be very kind of you to notify your veterinarian that you are ready to use your dog for a blood donor, they would really appreciate it! Flag

My vet has dogs, he uses that for. He said emergency snacks and a dog in need of blood for any reason, you had to have a match, so dogs have different blood types like humans. My puppy had a very sick man who needed blood and he gave me his dog's blood for nothing, in hopes of saving my baby, but he could not be saved.
