MarketplaceEmergency Airfare Emergency airline ticket? Does anyone know the protocols on what I could do? I need to fly in Heidelberg, Germany from U.S. Are you wanting the rate of mourning?
Most airlines offer price, although all airlines differ in their prices for bereavement fares, and usually you pay a high price for the front and then submit the "evidence" of death in the family (because many people will benefit from reduced price) for a refund.
-The bereavement fare is not always the lowest fare, although many times (especially in the last minute situation) it can be. It may also be more flexible when you need to change the dates around.
Last-minute tickets can be cheaper (sometimes but not always), but also comes with more restrictions, and does not allow you the opportunity to easily change dates around.
When you call the airlines, inform them that there is a death (or imminent death) in the family and you want the price of mourning.
To get this discounted rate most airlines ask: * The name of the deceased (or soon) * Your relationship with this person * The name, address and phone number funeral home (when you submit a refund after completing air travel) * Date of service (when you submit a refund after completing air travel) * A copy of death certificate (when you submit a refund after completing air travel)
Please note that most airlines you are eligible for this award if you are a parent, grandparents (including step-parents and step-parents), spouse, child, aunt, uncle, brother or sister (including step-siblings/in-laws), and the niece or nephew. Most airlines (but not all) also include same-sex domestic partners and legal guardians as eligible family members.
Most airlines that offer bereavement fares waive last minute restrictions and allow you to book using your frequent flyer miles while there is space available flights for loyalty, and provided that you give the airline the information outlined above.
Sometimes you may not be able to get all the above details before you travel. Keep receipts, boarding passes, and obtain a copy of death certificate and provide the details mentioned above. Submit these items to the airline as soon as possible after completion of travel (many airlines have time limits for obtaining refunds). Keep a photocopy of the items you have given to the airline. This is essential to get your refund for the value of the rebate after the end of travel.
Not all airlines offer bereavement fares. Again, bereavement fares are not always the cheapest option out there, but they are very often. If you request a refund after completing your trip, make sure the airline you are using does offer a bereavement fare prior to travel. Bereavement fares exist to offer you travel options for when you must travel at the last minute because of imminent death or a death in the family.

- Try to fly on the least popular days: Tuesday, Wednesday or Saturday.
- Remember that Saturday night stays are usually required for airline tickets over the negotiations.
- Try to choose the least popular flight times: mid-morning or late evening.
- Check with the airlines to discount fares lower.
- Consider using alternate airports near your desired airport. The additional disk can save you hundreds of dollars. . Posted on February 17, 2010.
