Anyone know if the treatment of chemo FOLFOX and Avastin can prolong the lives of more than 2 years if the treatment works? Husband starting chemo in a week. He had surgery for cancer of the colon and doc said everything was taken out of the colon. A PET scan was required before starting chemo and it now shows that it is also in the liver. Of course, there is now a stage IV cancer. Need to know how long does it really work live if chemotherapy and reduces the mass of the liver that can be made.
FOLFOX / Avastin is a very good therapy for advanced colon cancer and the trials that led to its approval suggests that the median survival is about 2 years. Meaning 50% of patients live beyond, and 50% less than that. Keep in mind, the statistics are only statistics, it does not say that your husband will do better than 2 years or months. But it is very likely respond to treatment. In terms of metastatectomies liver, it depends on how many injuries, how they shrink, and what areas of the liver are involved.
