Glucose Tolerance Test During Pregnancy

Glucose Tolerance Test During PregnancyDo you fast during the glucose tolerance test during your pregnancy?

Do you fast during the glucose tolerance test during your pregnancy? I am 29 weeks and because of my test, I just wanted to know if I should fast or not. I would call the lab, but a Sunday night and they are closed.

they told me not to eat or drink for several hours before my test. I took the test an hour, may be different for the three-hour test though. then you must wait one hour after you drink the stuff so they could draw blood. then you can get something to eat and drink. not bad at all. It just made me tired. lol. LOTS also the baby move. haha. luck.

Nope you do not need to fast. You can not eat or drink anything for hours after you drink the stuff and before the development of your blood.

do not eat at 12pm the night before

Yes, you, I had nothing to eat at 12pm the night before my test.

When I got mine done my youngest son, they told me not to eat or drink after like 3:00 in the morning and my appt. was 9. I was so thirsty. Once the test has been done and I've been eating breakfast.

This site indicates that there is no preparation to do, but he also says not to eat, drink or do strenuous excersise eight hours before the first blood.

I could not eat or drink after midnight! So I was good because my son was in bed by 9 pm each night because of exhaustion ... lol.

You're fine.

Same here. I could not eat after midnight before my test. I was starving afterwards! Good luck.

You do not have to fast during the test of time. If the results are abnormal returns, then you take another test you must fast. I wondered the same thing before my glucose test, and called my doctor. They told me to eat what I wanted, especially since my appointment was in the afternoon. As the nurse said: "I would not do that to a pregnant woman!" Good luck!

I had my test done last week and I ate all the way until the time I had my test and then I could not eat or drink during the hour after I drank the Orange nasty stuff after my blood everything was back to normal that was done by my docs instructions

Yes, your suppose to not eat after midnight the night before.

Just a tip. Put something is your purse for a snack after the test is done (that I plan to do this time).

Good luck with the GD test

No, you do not fast. This test is to see how quickly your body metabolizes sugar you drank. Be sure to drink one hour before the drawl. Try not to eat before drinking sweet orange sparkling sugar pop! If the test is positive, then the following test you will be fasting for. Good luck!

It was said that you had to fast before, but now they want to see what your body normally, if you need to eat and drink as you normally do during the day before your test.
