Coils Child on the carrot and dies - that your Au Pair know CPR?

Tragedy struck a school day long island Wednesday, March 16, 2009, when police said a two year old girl died after choking on a piece of raw carrot.

According to Carousel Day School Hicksville, New York, the girl began choking after eating a piece of carrot. Child care workers tried to perform CPR on him, before rushing the toddler to Nassau University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 4: 25 pm

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, a child in the United States dies of choking on food every five days!

Is this your au pair certified in CPR? Does your agency train your au pair to properly handle such an emergency if your child started choking on food? If your au pair does not have CPR certification or the skills necessary to dislodge food from the throat of a child, it can mean the difference of life or death for your child.

We reviewed within 12 au pair agencies and we have found information on health and safety on all sites that confirm their au pairs receive some training in first aid and CPR. The U.S. State Department requires that some form of basic training must be provided during the orientation of 4-5 days at par.

We found that only one agency provides all the basic CPR training that results of a CPR certification?

Take a look at what the agencies say they provide (not all agencies are listed here that most of them only had one or two sentences on "training" given to girls before they are at par made to your home):

Au Pair in America

In terms of training in CPR, Au Pair in America states their "orientation includes seminars organized by the American Red Cross (training) instructors who provide hands-on demonstrations of CPR Infant mortality and child and safety." What training n is not specified, and the au pair not to receive CPR certification.

However, APIA will pay for a minor child / CPR and First Aid certification for the standard at par and the child / adult CPR certification Educare au pair. The way it works is, your au pair is a Red Cross training in your city, pay for it (or you), complete and pass the course, given accreditation and APIA will reimburse you. CPR training cost of about $ 200 and it is well worth the money.

APIA is the only au pair agency that reimburses your au pair for this training.

Pair Care

Au Pair Care Au Pair has an Academy where the au pairs receive "Hands-on American Heart Association CPR and first aid training." They provide no CPR training base which results in a certificate for CPR or standard pairs educare. They did CPR certification from the par enrolled in the childhood immunization program specialist.

Pair of baby care training program at specialized:

Au Pair Care is the only organization in the pair that provides CPR Certification Training Core, but only in their infant immunization program.

Training "uses a practical approach to training young au pair safety and child care and child stimulation and development." AuPairCare specialized infant pairs followed a course certification Infant CPR and First Aid by the American Heart Association.

A spokesman for Care Au Pair told us they could not guarantee that all au pairs will pass the course (about 8 + hours of training and a formal test), but she said they have had a "great success" with this program and CPR Certification Training.

"Au pair are also taught trainers certified in infant massage with AuPairCare Foundation KidzTM Liddle, and training of trainers certified in sign language for babies from Baby Fingers, a leader in infants Sign Language organization of the Learning. "
