Where can I get free knee surgery performed by a doctor, clinic, hospital or research center? I heard that UAB-Birmingham has a surgery program for charity cases to those in need of surgery. I can not find the right online contacts and you want to hear any person who works at UAB or any person who participated in this program at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Medical Center or elsewhere. I am 47 years old, suffers from many years of traumatic osteoarthritis and who need the left knee and right ankle arthroplasty. I already had arthroscopic surgery to HealthSouth common Medical Center in Birmingham. Thank you.

Hyalgan is a synthetic joint fluid made from rooster combs, which is indicated for mild to moderate arthritis. It is administered as an injection in the knee once a week for 3-5 weeks. Hyalgan has been shown to allow for shock absorption, nutrition of cartilage and pain in patients with osteoarthritis. Hyalgan candidates have mild to moderate, with arthritis knee pain and wish to avoid major surgery. The current study is to evaluate patients with 3 or 5 injections of Hyalgan. enrolled patients are randomly assigned to two groups: 1) 5 weekly injections of Hyalgan or 2) 3 weekly injections of Hyalgan + 2 weekly injections of saline. Both the patient and the physician are blinded to which group the patient is assigned. The U.S. Sports Medicine & Joint Reconstruction doctors hope to determine which scheme is superior to injection in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee.
