What is the Christian view of the origin of mental disorders like depression? As a psychologist, I use to have to deal with the Scientologists and their ignorant beliefs about mental health issues, but recently I had to argue with a Christian who claimed that the devil causes depression and as such, people with depression can be cured by Christianity ....
Is this common belief by Christians?
Oh, no, not at all. I thank God that I live in a time when treatment is available to Beter depression. I'm taking my religious anti-depressants, because I do not want to go to this scary dark hole, never. I am a Christian, and part of my depression I felt like God had abandoned me. I also exercised regularly, which is supposed to help prevent depression. I did not take drugs, thinking that I would draw on my own, but there came a time when I could not find my bootstrap. Zoloft saved my life.
define depression and how do we know this is not a part of life?
I believe that sin is the root of all suffering .... While some may discard this theological argument there ...
But I will not blame the devil everywhere ....
could be worse. Your moods may be out of balance.
They think demons possess the person ....
I would not take their opinion on the subject.
Their book of reference was written by people who do not understand earthquakes, lightning, the germ theory of disease, genetics, biology, pharmacology ... I could go on.
I hope not! thats ridiculous!
the mentally ill are possessed by the devil to buy As with dementia, I am quite certain that all beings deprived of reason are therefore affected by the devil. "

You do not talk like a psychologist ..........
I think that in Islam, they should be demolished because Islam is a perfect world.
It seems that way. Not only with mental illness, but just disease in general. Some prayer more stress than to see a doctor, then people die. A recent case was a 11 year old girl died because her parents thought they could cure her with prayer instead of medical help.
chemical imbalance in the brain. My husband has severe depression and schizophrenia. Medication and prayer to help my husband with his mental disorders. He is a former atheist and is now a Christian.
Catholic Christian
I am a Christian who has struggled with depression.
I know that some believe is a sign of spiritual weakness, and I suppose in some cases, this may be a part of the problem ... However, I also know that depression in most cases is caused by physiological or biochemical problems. Like diabetes or cancer you can not get that far, but God gave us doctors to help us treat these conditions.
I hope my answer has helped.
God bless you!
Yes, the possession by the devil - and, of course requiring the Church to step in. and spoil things worse. Some churches do still believe in exorcism, sad to say. And I suppose that Scientologists believe in vitamins or something.
A former roommate of mine dating from the fundamentalist non-denominational "Christian". Which, of course, could have sexual relations outside marriage, but could not marry my roommate, because she had sex outside marriage with him, make him a whore. Yeah, must love.
But this guy has not only suffered from bipolar, but also schizophrenia. There were voices in his head. He decided they were the devil.
My roommate went to talk to the pastor of her boyfriend. Who told him he was not schizophrenic, he needs prayers as he obviously was possessed by demons sent by Satan.
My ex-roommate was raised as a non-denominational Christian and suffered from bipolar disorder. Then she said she should have.
