Need help with my sick cat to feline leukemia? Hi I have a kitty of 12 years who has lost half his weight in the last 6 weeks. It is also losing fur and quickly lost its spark. I took him to the vet who told me he thought had Schmeli feline leukemia or AIDS is. Blood tests to find one that would cost $ 300.00 and there is no cure for either. Basically, he told me to take him home and wait until he dies. This is not an option for me because he is like my baby. We decided to try putting the $ 300.00 giving him the best life possible while he is still with us so that research has been cures and natural remedies. So far, I changed his diet to all natural and added vitamen A, E and selenium, which aims to stimulate the immune system. It is also to have extracted from kelp and fish meat and vegies also thought mixed with brown rice and raw egg shell and all. I researched a product called transfer factor more. Any thoughts that anyone has would be greatly appreciated Thanks
I agree with others that may be a disease out FeLV or FIV. These diseases are usually found in much younger kittens.
The symptoms you describe could be diabetes or hyperthyroidism. Will he drink too much water and urinating too much? Does it have a voracious appetite, but it is still losing weight? You've already said that his coat is poor and has lost its spark. All these are classic signs and age is generally when these diseases occur. Another symptom of hyperthyroidism is a very bad breath. I know that all these signs. My cat diabetic and now my kitty treat hyperthyroidism second.
The other disease that his symptoms are similar to renal insufficiency. He drink and urinate excessively, but they generally do not have a good appetite, usually refuse food. From your information it sounds like a good appetite, I do not think he will be present.
The blood test you should have done is to verify all the main functions .. thyroid, kidney, liver and blood glucose. I hope you get a good report and it is something treatable.
Purrs to you and Kitty.
I think maybe you better make a second opinion at another vet.
I do not know how the blood work, without a veterinarian can say or suspect that these two deadly diseases.
Renal failure, diabetes, the condition thyroind, .. other lots may have the same effect if, in the acute phase.
Pls. consider having your kitt be reviewed properly. ASAP
Gd. luck.
Vet expensive! I paid $ 57 for a test of leukemia. Unfortunately, it is always fatal. It can be diagnosed with a kitty test.My blood had to be euthanized in the first week of symptoms and she was only 4 years. I'm afraid you're wasting your time with natural remedies. I'm sorry for your sweet cat, but he will have trouble breathing when the lungs fill with fluid. The kindest thing is to euthanize forward in pain. Sorry again.
Damn! It is expensive. How much does a combo test it (control of feline leukemia and AIDS)?
I hope he feels less shabby, he lived a long life. It's a difficult decision, but if it starts to hurt, you can think of euthanasia. I'm surprised that the doctor did not mention this, and told you to take him home to die. all hope seems relatively permitted on laboratory work.
At 12 your cat may have problems other than leukemia or AIDS. Am glad that you plan to have blood work done. As the other poster, I am surprised that the vet told you to take him home and wait for him to die. On this alone I would change vets. The power switch can not hurt anyway. If you can get to try L-Lysine. It strengthens the immune system. My vet gave us when we had a kitten with an upper respiratory tract infection.
