Nutritionists can work in a variety of different working environments. They can work in a medical office, a desk, in a hot kitchen busy, or in a hospital. The vast majority of nutritionists working in both outpatient clinics, hospitals, retirement homes, nursing homes, doctors' offices or offices of other health care providers as a clinical nutritionist. Others may work as a community nutritionist working in schools, universities, public health agencies, research organizations and government agencies such as the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institute of Health.

Nutritionists can work in private practice as a Nutritional Consultant for companies or organizations, or government agencies who have people with special dietary needs. Professional sports teams, college athletic programs and the United States employ nutritionists Olympic team sports to get a competitive advantage and maximize the performance of their athletes.

The central role of a nutritionist is generally develop plans to feed patients to improve health and performance. Nutritionists may specialize in care areas such as diabetes, kidney problems, cardiovascular, or pediatric dietetics. Food advertising, marketing and processing of food has created new employment opportunities in the field. New laws have been enacted requiring food manufacturers to comply with the regulation of food labeling. These companies need nutritionists to help you analyze their food, prepare literature for distribution, and make recommendations.

Nutritionists need good communication skills oral and written. They work with a diverse group of people - from very young children, preg women, the elderly. Nutritionists should be able to communicate effectively with a variety of different types of people from cardiovascular surgeons to a person needing assistance to public health. proficiency in foreign languages like Spanish can also be useful to a nutritionist. They also may need to write patient reports to physicians.
