What are good alternative treatments for prostate cancer? My friend who is a physician assistant just discovered he has cancer prsotate, and is looking at alternative treatments. Suggestions?
I would have thought that a physician's assistant might be better than turning to other cancer "treatment".
In this context "alternative" means unproven and untested. If a drug has proven he is no longer an alternative medicine, it is just the medicine.
Unfortunately where there is cancer there are unscrupulous charlatans waiting for a part of the vulnerable and desperate of their money for ineffective and sometimes dangerous "treatment".
There are, of course, well-intentioned and generous people that transmits information about "alternative treatments", they heard the story often unfounded. These people, although wild, uninformed and, invariably, have no experience of cancer.
Conventional treatments are far from perfect, but we know - because they have been rigorously tested and proven in double blind clinical trials - they save lives and extend many, many more.
If your friend experiences with other treatments, it is investing money, hope and - most dangerous of all - time scams ineffective while his cancer is not treated.
People will probably recommend a diet, I once thought my organic vegan diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fruit juices, and my healthy lifestyle I protect against cancer. He did not, nor cure me.
If your friend is tempted by any "other treatment", he (or you) must do a search on http://www.quackwatch.org/ for the facts.
depends on the stage??
Gleason score of 6 i think it's a good decision in its infancy
so I know who have pts well done with hormonal
its a blow on your fanny every four months with PSA and prostate exams ....
or radical prostatectomy hmm how old is he???
He should have a bone scan and CT done to ensure that it didn't spread
Good luck!
If they worked, "alternative" alternative treatments would be no more, would they? They should be tested, approved and absorbed in the range of traditional treatments.
I am appalled to hear that someone who works as a physician assistant has failed to grasp the most fundamental division between the treatments really work and which treatments may or may not work ...
I do not think it would be considered an alternative therapy, but I can tell you from experience .. better treatments and easier. I had a prostate cancer three years ago. I was treated with proton radiation at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California. Proton radiation is very different from conventional radiotherapy in that it has little and usually no side effects .. I have not been sick a single day during my treatments, all my men plumbing still works like when I was 30 ... Proton radiation has no side effects because it delivers 90% discount on energy for the treatment exactly the specific area to be treated ... He was released at this time .. Therefore, any tissue or surrounding organs are damaged ... The cure rate is about 90%, the same or I think .. little better than other treatments available
There is a site called Proton Bob has much more information about Proton radiation .. Please read .. and especially read the section of the testimony of former patients of Proton radiation. Loma Linda University Medical Center Proton radiation pioneer in this country about 17 years and because of their great success, other hospitals in this country are beginning to offer it, finally. MD Anderson in Houston, in a hospital in the Mass (Harvard I think), one in Indiana and Florida.
