Taxotere Chemotherapy

Taxotere ChemotherapyWhat is the difference between Taxol and Taxotere?

These are two chemotherapy drugs. Are they related at all? I have a friend who has ovarian cancer and has had an allergic reaction to Taxol. Could she have taxotere?

Taxotere is an alternative to Taxol. It was developed because so many women had reactions to Taxol. Taxotere has the same active ingredient, but it is suspended in a synthetic base.

People can still have reactions to Taxotere, but they are generally less severe. It is another form called Abraxane, even the active base different formulation for the base.

Taxotere is approved in the ovary, and as the other poster said, is a variant of taxol - they are both based taxane (they are derived from the yew tree.)

She should ask her oncologist that new tests are available for ovarian cancer and get a new agent.
